is a raised deck that is constructed from composite boards strong enough to build a pergola on it, using 4x4 posts and cement footings?

I would be concerned about the stability of the deck if you were to add a pergola. Using concrete beneath the posts for support is probably a good idea in stabilizing the structure against wind and leaning.

There are parts you can buy that screw down to the decking and are a frame and anchor for the posts.

The deck is constructed of 2x6's and the deck floor is made of that composite decking material. The cement footings are about one third the weight of a b.b.cue , but anyway thanks for your feedback but I have decided to use something else to stabilize it.
