What plants and flowers will give great flowers in spring or summer but also have great foliage color beyond the blooming period?

- Castor Bean...Amaranth/Love Lies Bleeding,,,Hyacinth Bean..Monarda/Bee Balm..Branching Sunflower...Zinnia...Morning Glory..Trailing Nasturtium...Here are some ideas. Try these!!!

  Hibiscus/rose of Sharon is wonderful. it has a long blooming season. Purple aster blooms last in the fall and provides beautiful color to a drab fall garden. If you buy bare root you get a lot more for your money.

  Perennials - go with Shasta daisy (tall ones), coneflower, rudebekia. Astilbe for shade areas. Annuals, I love zinnia. Long lasting and profuse flowers.

Castor beans are poisonous, not safe to use around small children or livestock.

  Yes they are but I have no children or livestock. I grow a lot of elephant ears which are also poisonous and never have a problem.

Catmint (Nepeta ) Purple flowers all summer, greyish green foliage. Perennial and spreading. Walker's Low or Six Hills Giant. Love it and planting more this summer.
