How do I make outdoor walkways cheaply?

The walkways are at the front, back, & side of my house.

  • since I don't know where you are from or what kind of weather you have, perhaps you can try making a path of mulch, small (crushed) stones, large slate slabs, or stepping stones.
  • Those were my thoughts too and some of what I have done at my own house.

Live in VA so we have all types of weather. What is an inexpesive way to line the walk ways? Railroad ties? Or what?

I like using large square pavers, and making rows. You can put rocks inbetween, or I like grass and/or ground cover made for walking on.

Here in Bavaria, you could get some old roof tiles from barns and old houses cheaply. Maybe you can find some around Reading, too. They can be used in many ways. Or you could make a mosaic from scrap tiles and pottery. It is very easy and for large projects you could use large broken pieces. Around my house I've even made a mosaik with cobble stones of different colours and sizes.
