I've heard of planting citronella to deter ticks. Also mint, rosemary and garlic! Or you could get some natural tick repellents! We use natural repellents from Wondercide for our dog and yard. We've had great results!

if you are trying to deter them from getting on you, I've found Avon skin so soft (original scent) lotion, along with wearing light colored clothing, long pants tucked into my garden boots works well for me.

Tick Repellent. Spray yourself and works on dogs too. Buy cheap vodka.

    16 oz. Vodka
2 to 3 drops each of the following essential oils.
    Peppermint Oil
    Orange Oil
    Texas Cedarwood Oil
    Lavender Oil
    Citronella Oil
    Rosemary Oil
    Eucalyptus Oil

We mix right in Vodka bottle increasing oils for volume.

Thank you all so much. I will try your remedies. I love the tea tree method. And the essential oils. Can't wait to try. Last year I used the skin so soft. I have always heard that it works. I got chiggers all over. So, I don't know what happened. Happy Gardening !
