What is the correct time to plug holes from carpenter bees?

I read somewhere that there is a correct time of year to plug the holes from carpenter bees. Does anyone know when that is?

What are you using to plug up the holes?

I've always found NOW to be the best time. I use plastic wood putty to fill the hole.

I used silicone and wood putty but, when I put Irish Spring soap up there for the squirrels the wood eating, boring bees did not like it.

My handyman plugged mine up with wood putty in the spring after the bees had laid their eggs to kill off the next generation.

I used silicone in the spring. That is when I noticed the bees going in to holes on my porch. They did not return the next year, probably because the egg or baby was sealed inside. I guess it became a bad place to drill holes.
