What can be done to throw rugs where the latex backing has either crumbled or no longer will stick on the floor so you don't fall. Is there any product available that you can buy to reapply to the back of the rugs?

You could take some puffy paint and do a pattern on back of rug to make it none slip.

You can also buy some rubber type material that goes under mats.

Hi! Thank you for the information. I am aware of the non-slip waffle like mats and use them on large rugs but I never heard of using puff paint on them. I will try that. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

There is a product that comes in a spray can called Super Grip that is specifically made for this.

You might also try Rubber Cement. After it dries it's just like a rubbery texture.

Thanks, this sounds like another idea to try.

I hear all suggestions, buy X spray, buy this or that. Retire the ratty thing. Buy a new one. Well used area rug makes good garden weed block. Water flows through , holds down weeds. Cover with river rock, gravel, colored flat back glass marbles

I think the heat in the dryer is what causes that latex backing to wear off. IF you do any of those ideas, I would try to line dry the rugs or put on cool heat.

You can buy spray can backing (can't say exactly where but internet search could probably find it), but easier is rolled non-skid underlay that you cut to just less than the rug size and put the rug over it. If you really want it attached, you can sew or safety pin the rug and underlay together. Big box stores should have the rolled stuff.

I found this stuff and it's called. Fiber-Lok Non Skid Backing, they have it on ebay and in several stores. It cost around $17.00 for a 16oz can. Haven't purchased yet so I can't say how well it works and how far it goes. Somehow 16 ounces doesn't sound like it can cover much. And I wouldn't want to spend that much on just one rug. If I do try it I will post the results.
