Personally, I hate grinds although I didn't need them in my patio door but all of my windows per my HOA

Truthfully I have never known of anyone who attempted to install grids on their patio door. Just thinking about it if the grids are on the outside of the door instead of factory installed I'm guessing unless the grids are very thin and lie flat they would impede opening and closing the door. The other problem you may encounter is that if you drill into the frame you may break the seal.

Sorry I couldn't be more help

I have some mullions on my patio doors made by Andersen. You can buy inserts that fit tightly in the frame. Some even come with a 2-sided tape.

My current grids are built right between the double panes of glass; however, in my first home, the grids came separate and had to be inserted. They just snapped right into place. I have never seen inserts for a big sliding window, though, so you may not be able to get what you want without taking drastic measures.

This may help - check your local stores in case they have them in stock. https://www.newpanes.com/howitworks.html

I used white vinyl tape that I got from Lowes to make my grids. Grids cost quite a bit of $ to purchase. You can also use screen board (it is thin strips) to make grids as well. Here is a pic of my window with the tape. Was easy to do as well and not a whole lot of money. I like how it turned out. I did this a few years ago, still look like new and cleaning windows is easy.
