Some sort of groundcover to slow erosion. Ice plant, sedum, thyme. Google for groundcover suitable for your climate and give it a try! Plus once it fills in the area will be practically maintenance free and no or very little weeding required. ☺
Leafy ground covers do well in this environment as long as they get some water on a regular basis. Dianthus, Blue Star Creeper, and Mazus are three flowering perennial ground covers that would look great.
