  • You don't have to. You can if you wish. I say add some good soil and plant away . . . ⚘🌱🌿

You don't have to line a garden box if you don't want to...but here are a few thoughts...if the box is wooden, lining it with plastic will make the wood last longer since it will not be exposed to as much direct moisture. If the box has drainage holes in the bottom (like a window box, etc), you can line the bottom with coffee filters to allow drainage but prevent the soil from leaking out. Good luck!

If you have a wooden planter and are concerned that the moist soil will rot the wood you can definitely line your planter with plastic. The drainage on the bottom is what's important, not what's on the sides.

I don't line my boxes with anything. You want the drainage to be available.

If you line the box with something, it can't drain. Put stone on the bottom, and then begin to put layers of peat moss, and good soil. Keep the plant box, in good sunny area, tho be careful, for not all plants can take the heat of the sunshine. Have a great day, J
