If you are looking for a furniture piece with closed storage that can be used as a TV stand....consider a dresser or even a credenza. They both have lots of storage, and are low, wide pieces that will accommodate most of today's larger screen TVs.
A friend of mine used a wardrobe unit (2 doors on top half and drawers on lower half). She had someone install a metal TV shelf inside the double door area that one could pull out and turn so the TV could be seen from any area of the room. When finished watching TV, one can push the TV back into the wardrobe unit and close the doors. Keep in mind...you need to remove an area of the wood from the back of the cabinet to accommodate the wires.
go to Goodwill or the Restore. They have tons of TV stands with closed storage
