Water logged- help!!!

If the water is running downhill, there are only two ways I can think of to help. One, would be to level your yard by adding or taking away soil, so that it is flatter or you could build a diversion of sorts to run the water somewhere else say the woods for instance. It could be anything from a border to a small trench for the water to flow into and away from the other yard. Hope this helps.

Google 'Rain Gardens' and 'Dry creek beds' to get an idea of what they are and how they work. Both are solutions for your problem. Then call your County Extension Office to find out if they can provide financial aid or refer you to a federal program that can. You might also check with your insurance company to see if you have any coverage for property damage.

French Drain.

If you research French drains on the internet it will tell you how to deal with ground water...it's an inexpensive and hidden solution, but labour intensive as you must dig a trench to incorporate the drainage tube. It does work well though.

We put in a short run of french drain at my Dads house and it is working great. Basement is staying dry as a bone now that we have diverted the water away from the house.

You may not be able to remedy this. Every spring I get a mini lake in my backyard from the spring rains and was told that I have an underground stream which peaks in my backyard so water seeks it's own level. I would check with your county/city to see if this could be what's going on in your property before I start digging. I just wait for the area to dry. However, my oak tree and birds just love it!
