You can do it ! Clean up really well . Sand lightly to get rid of the shiny surfaces. Wipe down again and let it dry completely . Paint away !

best to put a primer on that is made for slick surfaces. even if you sand, it may not stick as well as if you used the primer made for slick surfaces. experienced that when i re did a piece a while back. good luck!

I agree with priming it first. Doesn't hurt anything any only takes a little more time.

What about the Krylon that supposedly will paint anything?

You first want to clean it very well. Then wipe it down with TSP. Then paint it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. No need to prime or sand. Do not confuse this paint with blackboard chalk paint. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is not that. It requires no sanding or priming. Goes on smooth like silk and a little goes a long way. After you have painted your item then you put a coat of Annie Sloan Wax on and buff! All done and looks beautiful! (And no, I do not get any reward from Annie Sloan. I just think it's a great product.)

If you want to paint, you must (In my opinion) sand all over with 150 grit stand paper. Try softening the edges by simply sanding them. This makes a visual difference that you see but don't really see.

Black would be good, but may I suggest a wonderful charcoal grey. Might enhance a corner instead of standing out.

Note: I buy paint samplers instead of a quart. Cheaper and much less waste.

    Good Luck.

I agree that chalk paint would work well, easily cover. Sticks to anything! Recently have discovered Rust-Oleum Chalked paint which works as well AS chalk paint......less expensive too!

I agree, with most of the Suggestions above... Clean it well, lightly sand and wipe well and then use any of the newer Spray paints... I like the idea of the Charcoal Black in stead of just Black... its softer... or try Pewter or Bronze for a little Contrast..
