thats a hard one..i think there is some kind of spray you can buy that keeps them at bay from the smell..they smell it we dont..maybe look online or your local feed mill

I've used small pieces of lattice laid over the hole, after I filled it in. They can't dig through it, and it discourages future digging.

We use "hog wire" in the dog pens (we have bird dogs) - and ONE is a horrific digger.

They hate the smell of vinegar- try spraying around the yard to keep them away- good luck!

I've got a digger too, and she is GONNA dig, no matter what. To redirect her and avoid potholes in the walkway, we set up an area just for her. Soft mulch inside a small contained area (paving brick borders) and then buried a few chew toys in it.

Keep their nails cut short. It will hurt their quicks to dig. Get some chicken wire and bury it a couple of inches below the dirt. ( you can nail one end to the bottom of the tree, then bury the rest under the ground.). I have done this with a couple of diggers and it works like a charm.

Dogs hate the smell of their own feces. My Yellow Lab loves digging holes. I get some of his feces and put it in his favorite dig spots, and BAM!! He steers clear of it. Tried the chicken wire trick and he got it caught in his paws. His poop was free and worked better than anything else I have tried. Even Vinegar and ammonia poured in the holes didn't work, but poop did!!

If she's only digging holes to lay down in, how about building up an area and filling it with peat moss or cedar shavings so the dog can dig.
