I've never heard of pruning a tomato plant but that doesn't mean it can't be done! lol. Most of the ones I've grown I just sort of let grow as they will. I will snip off any yellow or discolored leaves & gently pulled off any tomato that has been eaten by bugs or birds. I just wondered if pruning would shock the plant . Great question!

It's the suckers you want to cut off. A sucker is an extra growth between the branch of the plant and the stem. Cut these off and get more circulation, and you'll also get the energy going into the fruit of the tomato plant.
