Any Suggestions for Cleaning Brass?

Recently became head of our churches altar care and the brass is in great need of being cleaned. Any suggestions?

Ketchup or tomato paste and vinegar actually works very well.
Mix vinegar with baking soda, to make a wet paste. Not so you are sticking wet paste to brass, rather must scrub brass with cloth & mixture.

Tomato based products. I use tomato sauce, but ketchup as mentioned works too. The acidity in them eats away the tarnish. You can also use Brasso, it's strong and works great.
