Its a great creative solution to paint over the crack and turn it into part of the decor!

I used pieces of glass from Hobby Lobby and glued them over the cracks, the mirror turned out pretty. It created character on my mirror.

You might consider using a stencil and etching the glass if you could place the stencil in such a way as to dissuade from the crack. Another suggestion would be to get the "lead paint" used to create a faux stained glass window affect without all the color in between. Depending on where and how big the crack, I've seen these flat glass beads sold at the dollar store, attached to a bathroom mirror - looks good. Again depending on the crack, you might glue on some sea shells and go nautical with the whole thing.
