My trellis rafters had holes from beetles- what can I do?

My trellis rafters had holes (5 are visible from below) made by a black flying beetle (
http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/38247077). Yesterday I taped them. Today I saw saw dust on the floor in the patio and the tape had a hole too.
What are some of the options I could try to avoid them from using this as their nesting ground?

Sounds like they could be powderpost beetles. Boracare is a pesticide you can treat the wood with. This article has some helpful tips as well:
