I've never been much on decorating for Valentine's Day, but I've seen so many inspirational projects online from bloggers I subscribe to that I decided to go for it! So with wood scraps I had laying around the carport and barn, I came up with this welcome sign for my front door and I love how it turned out!
I made this from oak plywood, furring strips, and 1x1 I had on hand. Then I painted the backdrop red with homemade red chalk paint and the heart with homemade white chalk paint. I distressed it a little and used some clear and dark wax. Dark wax was Annie Sloan. I tied some scrap burlap around it and put the dried roses through the burlap knot.
The backdrop for the heart is made from 2 pieces of oak plywood (2 scraps put together) then I cut to length and stapled 1x1 to frame it. The heart is made from 1x4 furring strips. I traced my heart out-line on the wood and used a jigsaw to cut out the heart. Then cut another furring strip to match the width of the heart frame and painted "Welcome" on it.
In watercolor with an iPhone/ iPad app I love called Waterlogue
