What are some ideas to keep deer out of my garden patch?

The deer use my garden as a salad bar! Usually they eat the tops off of the new plants. It doesn't seem to matter what kink of plants I have. Any help?

Use shaved Spring bath soap sprinkled around your gardens or mothballs

I've never grown a garden, but have heard of getting hair from beauty/barber shop to put around your plants. A friend of mine uses a motion detector on a high power water sprinkler. I would not want water run-off from soap or moth balls going into the root system of garden plants. Would be fine in a flower bed. Good luck.

Come and live in Australia; we don't have deer in our gardens, just the occasional Kangaroo!
