How many coats of solid deck stain is needed in full sun?

    Have you tried a UV protected wood stain? You will then only need to use as many coats as you desire for a certain look.

    Are you sure you want solid stain and not semi transparent?

    Have tried the semi transparent and it was a mess in no time (not even 6 months) Total waste of money.

    it really depends on the application method.....spray on (think spray bottle) is the thinnest and needs be reapplied frequently.....brushed on only penetrates below the surface....squeegy forces the stain in because you are applying pressure......of course if you use a high pressure paint gun...that is the ideal method...the more pressure applied-the deeper the penetration. in any case I would apply two coats at least to ensure you get any missed spots the first coat
