We have a small front entrance that includes a closet. About 6x6ft. We don't want to take down walls or the closet. It is begging for an update.

Try paint or wallpaper. Maybe add some artwork that lets people know just who you are but leave the family pictures somewhere else.

Hang a mirror on one wall, with a narrow table under it where you can place a vase for flowers , a bowl for keys and change , etc. On the opposite wall, a rustic welcome sign or coat rack.

Can you switch out your slatted door with a double sliding mirror? Something modern, no gold trim! Also you could embellish it with glass etching. Either classic straight lines around the edge or something fun you love like flowers or birds up in the corners. Everyone likes to do a last check on themselves before they leave for the day~
If not, paint the door white to lighten up the area.
I agree a nice table on the other wall with a case for FREESH flowers weekly, a nice bowl for keys and keep the space fun by rotating your art above the table seasonally. Even just wrap your art with wrapping paper and bow for Christmas!
You will be happy when you walk in and can hang your coat & put your keys in a pretty bowl. Organized! And happy upon leaving with a pretty vignette to see on your way out. Good luck!
