Anyone have ideas for styrofoam packing peanuts?

They work great for putting in the bottom of pots. They help drainage and decrease the amount of dirt you need.

Great to put in the bottom of flower pots so you don't have to use as much soil and it makes the pot lighter in weight.

i use them to make dog beds i get a heavy fabric fill it and make sure you make a washable cover cause you can not throw the bed in the wash .mine is for my frenchie so i used an old pillow case to cover a bed i made out of an old plastic type table clothe worked great

Thanks, I do have, or hope to have some new plants this year. Hadn't though about dog beds as I have cats but I think my brother has a dog.

Put some in the bottom of your large planters before adding the soil. Gives good drainage and makes pots easier to move.

You can put then in the bottom of big pots, before planting a large plant and filling with dirt. This makes the pot, not as heavy as it would be if filled completely with dirt.

Shipping peanuts are a recycle item in my area, but I always hang on to them for use in sending other packages out, use in flowering or foliage planters/pots and to store delicate out of season decor in the garage.

As long as they aren't the cornstarch dissolve-able kind I would use them in the bottom of large planters so you don't need as much soil and they are lighter in weight.

I contacted the company and these peanuts will disolve in water. Maybe I can crumble them up and let them soak up some liquid fertilizer before i add it to plants.

The only thing I use them for other than the obvious is on the bottom of large planters to save on soil. It keeps the soil away from the water collecting on the bottom the biodegradable ones are even better. You can tell by putting water on the peanuts to see if they dissipate.

Deanna, they make great filler for potted plants. Pots are lighter, plants are more aerated, and you save on potting soil.

I've seen them used at the bottom of a large planter, then topped with sand, add sea shells, driftwood, etc. and then a glass top. Makes it lighter in the event you want to move it about.
