Boot repair- advice on how to clean a mark left by tape?

I had bought a pair of Wrangler Boots at a yard sale and they had a piece of masking tape across the toe of one boot and when I pulled that tape off well it left a mark where some of the color (RED) of the boot came off with it ...does anyone know how I can fix this without taking it to a boot / shoe repair shop ?

A Red Sharpie. We use red, brown, black..whatever color the shoe is. Learned this years ago from my boot maker. You can color in the hurt spot then wax the boots with clear shoe polish and Voila! Perfect.

If it's real leather , I'd try some GooBe Gone on a test area and see if it soaks in or does what it's suppose to do. But only use a small amount on an old tee shirt. Good Luck

Try rubbing a little coconut oil onto the spot where the tape was then wipe it off with a clean cloth.

I just happen to have some coconut oil in the pantry !!! sounds like a good idea ...at least it would make the boot smell good ...lol

Try to re-color with a watercolor pencil. Then polish with a clear leather wax. I actually prefer this to a Sharpie because you can get an almost exact color match.

Goo gone first to remove any left over tape residue and wash off excess oil from goo gone.. then red sharpie pen to color in bald areas and let sit for 30-45 minutes..using a soft cloth like flannel gently rub in clear shoe wax and buff with a clean flannel cloth to desired luster. I have done this several times and it works wonderfully. Total cost is roughly $10-$13 + your time.

Red shoe polish buffed in really well and then baked on with a hot lighter. That is the way I used to do the best most perfect shine on the Air Force shoes.
