Have clay soil- what can I do to make it able to grow flowers?

Amending clay soil requires a lot of time.First step should be rototilling the area to aid in breaking it up,next Gypsum and pelletized lime,followed by garden soil .In the mean time until the soil starts to break down consider container planting

Amend...find plants that wouldn't mind some clay...If not really big the area, dig out some clay and replace with compost of any kind...It takes time to change this situation..Happy Gardening

In addition to the above amendments noted, I find that adding a good amount of sand helps break up the soil and provides good drainage. I live in the land of cliche ànd sand seems to work well.

Lots and lots of compost! And a little gravel

Compost, sand, peat moss, fine gravel, perlite; anything to break the clay soil up.

Dig in sand or grit and add kitchen waste, NOT COOKED MEATS, only veg and Tea, Coffee Grouts.
