Fireplace makeover- any recommendations?

I love my fireplace but all the white outdated tile is overwhelming. I want to give it a new look without tearing down the tile or breaking the bank. I would love any suggestions.

If you like glitz and glam, how about iridescent or colored iridescent mosaic tile where the current white tile is? Or, beef it up by replacing structural pieces with reclaimed wood: mantle, sides?

Thank you for the suggestion I am going to take that into consideration. Sounds like a somewhat simple project

  • What about the self stick tiles made for kitchen back splashes? They come in tile, glass, and even stone. Check with your home store to make sure they are appropriate for an area with that much heat.

If you paint, please make sure to paint over the gold with black paint to look more updated. You might need to check your paint to make sure it sticks to the metal.

Ohhhh I wish I lived near you, I'd volunteer to do this for you!!! The Portuguese are known for their tile art ... but it's very pricey. With some stencils and some paint in one afternoon you could replicate these tiles for about 20 bucks and have your own artistic flair .

    Hi, good question!

I would say that it depends on your personal style, and on what you love.

Fire place is a natural focus point. In order to emphasis that more you can dress it up: place a big beautiful mirror on top; add big tall candles on the bottom on each side (on the little step or on the floor). make sure the colors match each other and the overall color scheme

Add beautiful and colorful items you love, around it.

You can also paint the upper wall, lets say in turquoise and place a white morror on top.

I added a few pictures I found online - just to give you an example and inspiration

I would use stone. It would make feel soothing, instead of bright and straight lines. Ledger stone would look good.
