Can you paint over black lacquer bedroom furniture?

    If anything would work on that, it would be chalk paint. It is designed to adhere to high gloss finishes so you don't have to sand. You might want to get a small container and test it out first, but I bet it would work!

    Absolutely. Use either a paint deglosser and a primer or Kilz Adhesion Primer, then you are ready to paint.

    Don't use a deglosser. It will melt the lacquer finish and leave a sticky rough surface. Its good for deglossing paint finishes, You need to sand to remove the gloss and roughen the surface for paint. Prime with a stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123 or BIN then paint with your color.

    kendra, how did your project turn out? I have black lacquer Henredon set and want to refurb to something more modern.
