DIY Rollup Burlap Window Shade

I am loving this Sunday because it is a slow and easy day. We went home from our family farm this morning.. I did a quick interior styling job then went with my husband on his errand so that we can have some alone time together. Now the kids are asleep and I have a little bit of time to blog! Yes! I look forward to some time for me.. time to blog, catch up with some computer work and not have to rush.

I made a huge mistake in the powder room of our new house. I knew I wanted the mirror to go all the way to the ceiling. Cutting it just before the window would be too odd, and we really wanted some ventilation so I thought of putting a ledge to conceal this window and terminate the mirror.

It really looked bad and I had always intended to cover it with some artistic window treatment. I was thinking of macrame' but I couldn't afford a huge piece to cover this. I will try to do one someday.

or now here is my solution.. A DIY jute sack widow treatment.

Here is what you will need:

1. A roll of jute sack. I got mine from Craftsmith Living.

2.Hot glue gun

3. nylon thread

4. scissors

5. screws and a screw driver or hand drill

6. wooden clothes pins

Here is what I did:

1. Measure your jute sack and cut to desired width.

2. Drive the screws on to the place where you want to hang your blinds from.

3. Run nylon thread inside the jute sack, fold and seal with hot glue.

4. Tie the ends of the nylon thread onto your screws to hang.

5. Roll it up and secure with wooden clothes pins.

I like the feel that jute sack brings. It matches the rustic market vibe theme that I have for this room and it still allows air to escape. What do you think? It is nothing professional but that is what makes DIY fun right? It concealed my ugly window and made it look presentable. It only took me 15 minutes to do this so I am sure you can do it too!
