How can you cover an outdated linoleum when you rent your house?

The linoleum is that gold and white pattern and it is old but in pretty decent condition with the exception of about 3-4 areas. They are worn and black and can't be cleaned. I rent the house so don't want to put a lot of money into it and the landlord is not willing to replace. Please help and rugs are not a good fix. The photos are only a few of the spots.

    Are you aloud to paint?

Depending on where it is in the house, you may just need to do an area rug if you can't paint. Or here is a link where a renter used contact paper to update their floors:

Dysko, I love this and it solves my issue perfectly. Thank you so much

Ask your landlord about replacing it. Maybe offer to pay for the product if he or she pays to have it installed.

Thank you Gina but I offered to do this and he isn't interested in putting any money into the house at all.

Shame on him. Frankly, I think I would want to move out. You are earning him money every month. And to carry it a tad further, I am all about buying something and building equity and lots of DIY projects that can go on for ever. So if moving is not possible then maybe some peel and press tiles right over the old linoleum.

There are carpet tiles 18" x 18" for as little as $1.38/sq ft at the local big box stores. A 10' x 10' area can be covered for as little as $138. These are carpets, however what is unique is that you can pick one up and you can easily replace it, if necessary. You can also pick them up and take them with you.

I did watch a video on youtube just the other night where using double sided tape, she used vinyl flooring and was especially pleased because they can be removed and taken when you move. These look like they could get pricey, but check out her video: Her channel is "Engineer your space". I've recommended her before on a different project.
