How do I make an old fish bowl with bamboo in it look different

I bet if you remove everything from the bowl, Linda, then give the bowl a good cleaning to remove the hard water deposits, etc., that will be your start. Maybe instead of the glass marbles, you could use something different in whatever color/s you would like it to compliment. I could see it sparkling and glam with lots of crystal (plastic or inexpensive glass crystal-looking ) 'chunks' to reflect light back and forth in the bowl. Or maybe something more country...like buttons! Or grape view in and above the water wound into a loose circle within the bowl...and maybe add a galvanized tiny watering can or sign you've made cut from a soda can into the grapevine...the list is endless! I did a reception with fish bowls but much smaller, and the bride wanted pearls, black and white. i used fresh flowers in her colors but your bamboo could look equally stunning. Just make sure to remove any dead/yellow leaves before 'replanting'. I hope this helps---good luck Linda.

Another look would be to cover the outside of the fishbowl with a pretty fabric, contact paper, glass paint or glued stones, fake gems, buttons. I think pretty fabric to match the décor, and a bit of twine, lace or sting would be easy and inexpensive. I'd truly follow Linda's advice and clean and refresh the plant and fishbowl before doing anything to change the look.

My husband brought home a fishbowl from a school reunion and I made a terrarium out of it. I found a few small anima figurines at thrift stores that I switch out occasionally. A few plants, a piece of drift wood, a few stones, a few glass tiles to represent water, and a small clear glass saucer/bowl for a lid. Perfect way to use a fish bowl I didn't need.

Decoupage a pretty napkin or parts of the napkin or lace to it after you have given the bowl a good cleaning . You can cover it completely or just parts with your design. Happy creating!

I am from Hawaii and I grow alot of Lucky Bamboo. Lucky bamboo does far better with diffused light and just enough water to cover the roots.

Try a Beta fish after you change out the water. Also fill the entire bowl with pretty rocks or marbles, if a fish doesn't appeal to you. ☺
