  • You do not need to remove to refurbish it. You can also call the pros in to reglaze it for you, or pick up a kit from a home improvement store.

Rustoelum Tub and Tile epoxy paint will do the trick in place.

Call a pro to come and do the reglazing onsite.

You may as well recaulk at the same time. So remove all of the old caulking, and tape off the surround that you don't want touched. When you or a pro get finished, let the tub thoroughly cure before you let water touch it. Then paint any walls you want to, while taping off the edges of the tub. When that has dried, remove the tape and recaulk carefully and completely. You will have redone your tub and part of your bathroom, efficiently and professionally. Best wishes 😇

Thank you for our suggesions. All of the surrounding wall is pink tile (of course, what else for he 1950's). Our issue is only the tub. I do have the kit to redo it, but is it worth doing it myself with a fractured back or better to have a professional redo it.
