I am not sure what kind of tub you mean. But, if you put a pie tin of warm water under a lamp or night light, then drop some dish washing liquid in they will dive in and drown. I hope that helps.

  • First are you sure they are fleas? Next, fleas are a health hazard to you and your family and pets, you need to rid the house of them. I would call a pest control company for an inspection and suggestions.

Hmmmmm, never heard of fleas coming up a drain. Contractors usually use borax (like 20 Mule Team Laundry Borax). You could sprinkle that in the tub, its non-toxic to pets and humans. It kills eggs, so do again in 9 days as that is the hatching cycle. I would say .....close the drain up. or fill tub with enough water to just cover bottom, put a bit of Dawn in (it breaks surface tension) and they will die. Fleas tend to congregate in the edges of the room, and under furniture. You an sprinkle the borax (use a jar and poke lots of holes in lid) all over your carpets, and can do furniture too....leave for 3 hours, vacumn up. You will have to do in 9 days again until they are gone.

Plug your sink and bathtub and shower. It sounds like you have drain flies not flies.

Once every six months I pour 1/4 cup

bleach down all my drains and toilets and let it sit overnight . Clears any potential clogs and gets rid of any gnat problems I might get in summer.

I don't care what all the internet posts say about fleas not being in drains. I have them. I am a biologist. I know a flea. These are not snow fleas or gnats or drain flies! I have the flea bites! I recently bathed my two dogs that were covered in fleas in our guest bathtub. I treat my dogs monthly with Advantage and have not had a flea problem on dogs OR house or yard in years! However, the dogs were covered in fleas a few weeks ago. Maybe I got a bad batch of Advantage?? I don't know. After the baths I cleaned the tub as usual - been doing this for 25 years in same tub. One night I took a bath in there. There were fleas on me! I cleaned tub real good - didn't see any when I got through. Another night I took a bath in there, I noticed this again! Now when I go in that bathroom, the white tub has fleas -yes, real fleas that bite, same ones on dogs - all on the bottom only of the tub. I have sprayed with Bengal, I have bleached. I have poured salt down the drain. I have let bleach water stand in tub overnight. Next day, more fleas on bottom of tub. They are not on the sides or around the edge. If I reach in to swipe with a paper towel thinking they are dead, they jump on me and bite. The only place they can be coming from is the drain. I am thinking from when I bathed the flea ridden dogs and let their fleas go down the drain. I have set off two excellent flea foggers in the past week in that room alone. (Can't think of a way to fog the inside of a drain. I did spray Bengal down the drain.) Right now I have a tub full of dead fleas. I am not going to clean it. I am going to let that fog residue just sit. I am sick of it. Just don't discount the reports of fleas in drains!!

I also have fleas in my tub. I couldn’t figure out where they were coming from, also thinking they couldn’t possibly be coming from the drain, we have 9 heat lights above the tub (we don’t use them) and they are open to the attic so I assumed they were coming down from there. I bombed the attic and washed the dead fleas down the drain, days later, tub was filled with fleas again. Washed them down, plugged the jets and days later, even more fleas. Hubby went under the house and noticed we had leaky gasket so I plugged the drain, haven’t had a flea in the tub since then so I have to assume they came in from the drain. But why and how is still beyond me. Just glad I’m not alone.

I can relate. We had bad flees 18 months ago and bathed the dogs in the tub. We’ve had professionals spray and everything. STILL flees in the tub. I’m out of ideas but if anyone has a solution would love to hear it. Flee larvae are not supposed to be capable of living this long. They are defying science!

This is my situation. I’ve torn up the carpet thrown it out caulking everything and still I was seeing fleas 48 hours later, I seem to be making some headway, I am using a product called Wonderside, flea and tick concentrate, mixed with water and spray it directly on them and it kills them instantly, the one I’m using is actually for outside, but I have an order that I can use inside, supposedly perfectly safe all natural.

Hope to get back to normal soon. I’m keeping the door close to the bathroom until it totally goes away, that seems to be where they’re at, although I’ve treated my whole house with flea busters powder and three cats with revolution plus. Ugh! 🤞🏽

Hi, I have the exact same problem. How did you get rid of them?

Hi. I have the exact same problem. How did you get rid of them?

I wish I knew the solution . They are fleas not drain flies. I had drain flies in this home in coastal Alabama and did the method to rid of them. I see fleas this time coming up in this one drain from a very slight raised house . The plumber dug out to get to the drain and installed a new drain & overflow . The pest control people have sprayed under and in the house. We have used the green gobbler fruit fly spray , the drain fly method again , the dawn dishwashing soap. They are still coming up in to the this one tub on the first floor . There is no problem

with the other bathroom on the first floor . Plumber has found no leak anywhere. Still have this same problem.
