If you're just wanting a little protruding roof on the front of a flat fronted dog house you could use shelf brackets or even a decorative bracket like you would hang plants from. Mark where you want them to be on the front of Tiger's house (CAREFUL use screws that will not protrude inside the house to where the animal might hurt themselves on them). You may have to bend the brackets down a bit if you want some pitch to it (I suggest bending them before you attach them and depending on the bracket you may be able the give them a slight bend with your hands or foot). Then pick the material for the awning/roof, be it metal, wood, plastic, or wood with shingles. Screw that to your brackets and then screw the entire assembly to where you marked it in the beginning. This is all contingent on a flat, straight across, no fuss rain shed for a pooch if this doesn't suffice you might consider more of a description of you dog's house for other readers. Best of luck!

Building a dog house yourself is one of the smartest investments you’ll ever make.

Not only will you have a far more attractive place for your dog to stay, you can feel proud in the knowledge that you built your best friends home with your own two hands. Click here to check out some insulated dog house plans that are cheap.

I highly recommend these. They helped me put up a dog house in my garden rather quickly — and they're insulated too!

If your're looking for more of a pass through door type cover you can re-purpose materials that can simply be tacked at the top of the door. A cut section of a canvas drop cloth, a piece cut from an old shower curtain, just about anything that can be trimmed to fit and will keep out the weather.

I believe I would cut what ever I found to use, in wide strips, over lapping each hanging slightly over the next one. This way the animal gets air and when they walk through the strips they swing right back closed. They have LARGE strips in most Lowes & Home Depot at their back dock entrance. to see what I mean. Whatever you might use should you like the idea...make is thick...not like a shower curtain.

I would use something that would be fairly waterproof and overlapped to help keep rain out of the dog house. I would secure them with staples to help keep them from coming off from the dog going in and out.
