Here is a way to make a free standing bottle opener - great gift idea and just in time for Father's Day!

Cut a 2x4 into 4 1 foot pieces.
You'll need two inch wood screws.
This is going to be the shape of your base.
You can use a 4x4 red wood post and cut it to your desired height of your opener stand. We are using an aspen log for our post. We had to cut it down last fall as it had died and I saved it for this.

Place your 2 x 4's around your base to prepare for drilling the screws in.
Drill your boards into place.
Set your post inside your base. If your post is not secure enough after this step, you can add a few more screws through the 2 x 4's into the post on all 4 sides.
We opted to drill a hole in the top of our post for ....
A solar light!
Decide where you want your bottle opener to go on your post and screw it in. We used 2 10 x 1 oval Phillips sheet metal screws.
Using a nut driver, screw in a 10 x 3/4" hexagonal sheet metal screw for where your bucket will hang to catch the bottle caps. Don't screw it in all the way so you can hook your bucket onto it. This will allow you to remove it when you want to empty out the bucket.
Here is a picture of the completed project!

We have made a hanging bottle opener as another option, you can find that post here: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/rooms/easy-bottle-opener-29581275

Is there an option for legs? They look like they would trip someone.
