I just painted mine on the outside and did not paint on the water bowl part. Instead I tried to do a mosaic tile (didn't come out great) and I just used all weather thinset.

I called Ghost Shield, they stated on their website that Siloxa-Tek 8510 was a safe sealer for bird baths. So I asked them if it was paintable? They said no and it won't hold up to UV rays. They would not recommend it for bird baths.

Use a coating which is designed for swimming pools. If it's safe for humans then it's safe for tweety !

Both great ideas Ana and Scott, Thanks so much. The water bowl part gets nasty and ugly and slimy, what do you put in yours to keep it clean?
