Make Brand New Carved Knife From Rusty, Old Trash

I've got rusty, ruined, old knife. Instead of throwing it away, I decided to make it shiny again. I also made a carved handle from beech tree. Now it looks pretty awesome.
I made a step by step video from my project, so If You are curious, or just want to know, how to make or restore knife, go one, watch my tutorial.
I've used the beech tre for the handle. It is because this tree is quite dense, good for carving and very durable. I recommend it for the knife, but You can use any type of wood which is good for carving. One thing - the wood should be dried and without the cracks. Moreover the grain should be along the knife handle not across it (if so, the handle would break).

I recommend birch, beech, walnut or oak for the handle. Those are the cheepest and easy to get materials.
Carving in fact (when You have prepared the template) isn't so hard. It's just need a precision, not so dense wood and sharp knife. Of course the chisels are helpfull but not 100% required. As I said, If You have sharp, small knife it would be enough
After making the carvings it's time to clean the project with sandpaper.
Making handle by own gives one big adventage - the handle would be perfectly suited for the maker's hand.
Now it's time for blade restoration. Use the falt chisel to remove the old handle, but be carefull to not destroy the blade. I recommend to cover the blade with duct tape for protection
To remove the rust and polish the blade You need just sandpaper and a time. Use grit from 200 to 1500 and even 2500.
Nice looking blade after renovation
It's time to connect the blade with the new handle. Use a drill to make a whole in the handle and glue the blade in there. Use strong glue (epoxy maybe).
To hide imperfection in junction use a putty (in the video I;m showing how to create one perfectly fitted for the wood)
Finishing is the most satysfying part of the project. Use a stain based on terpentine&oil (not oil paint) and watch how the handle becomes beautiful ;-)
That's all. The knife is ready to use and it's made just for Your hand.
Another picture of the final restoration product. Isn't it nice ?
