If you are thinking perennials for indoor plants, I have no advice as I don't think they make good houseplants. My experience is to water less indoors. Outdoors, I've found daylilies to be foolproof. The trouble with perennials is they bloom once a season and that's it.

Tiger lilies, hosta, violets, lily of the valey,.... when it comes to watering house plants, I've had success with my house plants by watering the plants until the water runs out the bottom, and not letting them sit in water; and plants will tell you that they need watering if they droop, or with some plants, the tips of the leaves will have dried out. Try an Chinese Evergreen, they are very forgiving and work well no matter the light. Good luck :)

West window with light all day is not enough for outdoor plants. If you are growing succulents, they do not use regular potting soil so they probably die from overwatering and not enough light. Try something like African violets, snake plants, or even orchids. Make sure you get the right soil and fertilizer and hydrate but don't overwater. (If your humidity is lower than 40%, mist them.) When in doubt, ask someone at the nursery.
