How can I cool down my rental apartment where windows face sun.

My apartment faces the setting sun. It gets 100 degrees plus in the summer. I have blackout curtains but, I need more shade so my a/c bill isn't breaking the bank.

If you do not have a window A/C at least the,best you can do is to exhaust the hot air out the apposing window.

Can you install sun blocking roller shades? that could cut a lot of the heat.
put a fan in one of the windows or get a stand up fan to circulate the air conditioner

Pleated shades, or maybe mini-blinds, which you can tilt to repel the sun, but still get some light.
Is the sun blocking side of your curtains silver tone?, if not they will not reflect the heat back out. Its the same fabric as the window shields you put in
your car. You can get some window tint and apply that, along with the blackout curtains, should help.
