What type of grout do I use with a glass tile backsplash?
I want to put a small tiled backsplash behind my kitchen sink. I see sanded and non sanded grout. I am confused!

Loraon Jun 9, 2017Sanded grout is for big grout lines and non-sanded is for very small grout lines. I would ask where you got the tile, but likely non-sanded.HelpfulReply
- Cyn21222499on Jun 9, 2017Thanks! Lowe's only had really large quantity containers, and this space is only 2' x 1', so was going to see what I could get at another place. Now, I know!!HelpfulReply
- Williamon Jun 9, 2017Lora is correct! Sanded grout for wide gaps, mainly used on floors. Unsanded for narrow gaps. You case use unsanded grout.HelpfulReply

B. Enneon Jun 9, 2017Unsanded for sure... If your tile is transparent, make sure to use the right mortar (thin-set) and it is applied properly so you don't see trowel lines through the tile.http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/skills-and-know-how/masonry-and-tiling/installing-a-glass-tile-backsplash-in-a-kitchenhttps://www.bobvila.com/articles/545-using-glass-tile-for-a-handcrafted-look/#.WTsJn2jhBPYHelpfulReply
- Kayon Jun 12, 2017make sure you use a white morter! This way the true color of the glass tiles will show. If you use the regular gray morter it will totally distort the color of your tilesHelpfulReply

See 1 Previous - Susan Bechampon Jun 10, 2017Be sure to prepare the walls properly with a good thorough cleaning, use PST (degreasing cleaner) and rise well. Follow instructions on the thin-set (adhesive) and use the right tools. Make sure they are close to hand when you are ready to start. (Local rental center should have cutters, trowels etc... so you wouldn't need to buy them for small projects). Have fun!!!HelpfulReply
- Cyn21222499on Jun 11, 2017I am a fused glass artist, so I have some of the tools. No cutting needed, as the tile sheets fit the space perfectly. Thanks everyone!HelpfulReply
- Kayon Jun 12, 2017Sanded grout is for not only wide (1/2 inch and wider) grout lines, but also for outdoor applications.HelpfulReply
