Looking for Good Quality Small Scale Sofa or Loveseat for Living Room

Hi! I am looking for a small-scale sofa or loveseat (72 inches long or less) for my home's living room. I like West Elm's Paidge sofa, the Demi sofa at La-Z-Boy and Ethan Allen's Bennett loveseat (the priciest option). Does anyone have an experience with these brands and could make a suggestion for me? I am hoping to find a well-made sofa within my budget that will last. Thanks!!
This is a collage I made of a living room design featuring one of the sofas I like, the Paidge from West Elm.

Have you compared the warranty on each of them? That can tell you allot about a product.

I can tell you that I recently purchased my second sofa and love seat from La-Z-Boy.I only replaced them because they were green and I wanted to go a different color. Had them for about fifteen years and condition was great! Style choices are limited, but I love my new set! They are so comfortable. Lots of luck. It's tough not being able to walk in and pick out from the furniture in the store.

Check out this furniture company. Good design, and I love the fact you can swap out components and coverings. With dogs who are allowed on the furniture the washable coverings really appeal. http://www.homereserve.com/?gclid=CKH4k7K3kLwCFQPZQgod73MAFA

Believe it or not Macy's has some great buys that have very high rates.

If you have or can find a well made piece of furniture, it may be worth your while to have it recovered. Or if you are handy, you can recover it yourself and have something original. Good luck.

Don't overlook Ashley Furniture. People think of them as "middle of the road", but my last three living room suits have been from them and I have never been disappointed (always ended up giving away perfectly good furniture when I replaced them - only because I was tired of them, not because they were worn out). All pieces are made in the United States (Pennsylvania) and they DO NOT make anything and pile it up in a warehouse. Every single piece is custom made when you order it (takes about a month to get your furniture because of this). This is my current sofa and I love it. Have had it for about 3 years and it looks just like the day I bought it. http://www.ashleyfurniture.com/Showroom/Showroom.aspx?PageId=Showroom&CategoryID=1&ItemNo=1040038&SetDomTab=1&SeriesNo=10400&CollectionId=&style=&PageNumber=1&IsClicked=1&CatPageNumber=1 Oh yeah - and they are WAY affordable!

Sorry Bethany, I'd never recommend Ashley's or buy anything there again. Poor quality and poor customer service. I had a burgundy leather sofa and recliner that were crooked on the cheaply made frames and Ashley's was not helpful (or nice) about fixing it. Lazy Boy is the way to go. Watch for sales and buy from independent dealers like Steinhaffles for the best value for your dollar.

Lauren, the first thing I will recommend it that you search online for some good articles on how upholstered furniture is made and what to look for when shopping for it. Houzz.com, Forbes.com, and ConsumerReports.org are just a few sites with articles. There are good articles on case goods, too. Having this information will help you buy the best you can afford and maybe avoid some costly errors by relying on brand name. Also, knowing how and where to shop is crucial to getting your money's worth. Furniture has a tremendous mark-up. Do a web search on "furniture mark up" and prepare to be shocked. I am lucky to live close enough to Hickory and High Point NC to make the trip occasionally but you can get the same savings from your computer. Fortunately I have found some companies that carry multiple brands, and by multiple I am talking hundreds. One good way to check things out is to go online to the brand's web site. Most all of them show their products online. Let's say you have been out shopping at your local retail stores and you find something you love. Get as much info on it as you can such as brand, collection name, manufacturer's number etc. Then go online and look for the same piece. You will have several hits so start checking prices. Another of my favorite things is being able to see all the other pieces in a collection. And it is not unusual for a sofa to come in more than one length so when you are out looking, don't let the length rule it out until you have checked. Retailers order the pieces they think will sell the best. However, there may be additional pieces in the collection that you will never see in a retail setting. I have ended up buying a piece I fell in love with while looking at the collection online....twice. Believe me, you will see lots of prices for the same item. Also, when you call to check on the item from any of the internet sites, be aware that most will bargain. Off the top of my head I can think of some companies in NC and some manufacturers have their outlet stores in NC or close by. Be sure to figure in shipping cost. They can give you the cost while you are on the phone. Also, if you are ordering from NC and live in another state you usually don't pay sales tax so that helps offset shipping. (Unless your state has different tax laws). The Furniture Factory Outlet Guide, 2013Edition by Kimberly Causey is the newest update of a book I have used for years. Not only does she list the outlets but gives additional information including any problems they may have. There are other, similar books, too. My source was Amazon. How ever you choose to go about it, have fun. And remember, its your money, close your ears to the sales persons usual verbiage and use your knowledge and common sense. I've been buying furniture this way for over 30 years. It may see like a lot of work but think of the money you will save or you may find out that you can afford that higher priced sofa you saw in the store. Actually, it can be fun, too. Last year I happened to see a gorgeous Maitland Smith TV Wall Cabinet that I had fallen in love with on our last NC trip. Its a beautiful chinnoiserie cabinet but, hey, Maitland Smith is not exactly "moderately" priced. Well, as it happened, the style was being discontinued so I called a contact at the store I use most and was able to get an awesome deal. Sorry this turned into a book and there are lots more things I've learned but maybe this will help. The research doesn't make for instant gratification but I'd rather have the extra money. Good Luck and have fun.

Hi Lauren, have you checked out Walmart or Target? Great prices on furniture!
