We just put in energy saving shades in our kitchen, family and living room. They are neutral in color. I don't want anything frilly. Any suggestions?icon

All the high end designers and stores seem to be opting out of valances all together Can you just have the shades? If you want more, I might suggest long drapes. Ikea has lots of nice options and that is the route I just went.

Thanks. Like the idea of no valances. Makes my life a lot simpler.😊

Yes, it seems to be the look. While I added drapes in the bedrooms, I think in the living areas, I am just going with blinds and that's it. Save time and money!

i think it depends on how dark you want the room.....i sleep days and work nights.

i most defiantly want a valance over the top of the window - not just around it.

in my first house i used foam core board covered in batting and topped with muslin to make a valance. hung a 2x2 across the widow width and used velco to hang the valance, and curtains on the rod just under it.

2 ideas we have used, the first ras to use an inexpensive spring rod in the kitchen window, then draped cool large napkins over it! diagonally. Looked like a valance to everyone! I replaced that with a lomg cloth that is pushed through a small box on either sideof the window. The larger cloth works both like a valance, and as a curtain.
