Don't stress! Think of it as detoxifying your life. 😊 Have two bags ready, one for keeping, and one for donating. Start in one room at the corner and work outwards. once you get going you won't want to stop! What I have done in the past is to call a local donation center that picks up and I set up a date ASAP. That way I have a deadline. Good luck!!
clean out one corner of one room and you will find yourself going from there. It's that first step that is the hardest.
Do you have family who can help? That can make it more fun. One of the things I'm doing while cleaning out is looking for items that I want to pass on to my kid/grandkids. I've been putting a note on some items so they know where it originally came from - my mother, my grandmother, etc. For other items I am making a list to divide other things that I am still using. Hope that helps a little.
I recently moved my parents to an apartment half the size of their old home and can certainly understand that you may be feeling overwhelmed! Try to pick one room (preferably the smallest) to start with. Look at what you have, what are you still 'in love' with or still use, ...keep that- everything else donate or give away. If you have something that you haven't used in a year or more, this too can find a new home. If a piece is broken or ripped or just plain old and tired, you no longer need to keep it. Try to think of how your lifestyle has changed and/or will change and keep only those items that will support that lifestyle.
Start with one room and clean out something each day--a drawer or a cabinet, etc. Eliminate duplicates.
DIFFICULT!!! WE KNOW. WE ARE STILL IN THIS PROCESS. REMEMBER, SOMEONE ELSE, CAN USE THIS, AND THEY ARE WAITING FOR THIS, OK?OR GIVE TO A FRIEND, OR LOVED ONE. SOME PLACES WILL GIVE YOU A TAX PAPER TO CLAIM IN THE NEXT TAX EVAULUATION.
You are very welcome, have a super day!!! J.
Boxes or bins if you have them. Think of it has making gift baskets or packages. And as the other comments go throw away torn or damaged or broken things first. Set out 1 box and label for each friend. Then add item you feel that would be appreciated.
