We recently moved from Indiana to Florida because our kids and grandkids were all living in FL. I love Lilac bushes and had a lot of beautiful ones. Does anyone know if they will grow in Florida and if so is there something special I need to use to plant with them?

Cher, they won't grow near the Texas Gulf Coast, so they probably won't grow in Florida, either, unless you live in the northern part and then only maybe. Same goes for Peonies! Those two are my most favorite flowers of all and I can't grow either. Boo!

It would be helpful to know your planting zone. Found this on Google:

What zones do lilacs grow in?

It grows and blooms in hardiness zones 3 through 9, reaching 8 to 12 feet tall and 6 to 10 feet wide. Plant in full or partial sunlight.

It's too hot for lilacs in the south. A good substitution for lilacs is Crape Myrtle.

Thanks for your comment. We only moved to FL because our kids and our grandkids all moved here. Had a home in IN that we designed and built in 1990 and thought we would be there till we died but God apparently had other plans for us so here we are. I just really miss all of the flowers and shrubs I had and especially the row of Lilac bushes along our fence line. Guess it is time to find something else I can enjoy in this climate.
