i would say spray. they have handled nozzles you can buy at Walmart by the spray paint that makes it easier to spray with.

I would also say spray paint it but if you're more comfortable hand painting it, you could do it that way too.
Spray paint will eliminate runs..its the best way to go.. just be sure to prep good before starting the painting

I've done both. Spray takes many coats if coloring brown wicker with a lighter color.
