Removing glass doors on fireplace...ideas?

I would like to remove the glass doors and black frame (for the doors) to have an empty fireplace. We're in Florida, and never use it. I'd rather have some candles in the opening to brighten up the area.

I just did the same. I removed the fireplace screen and found a tiered candleholder at my local Savers (like a Goodwill store). My husband is a bricklayer and told me to spray the inside block black. I really like how it looks now when I light the candles! Hope it works out well for you, too.

Remove the glass front. The brick behind the frame may be very dirty due to use. You may need to clean it with muriatic acid. Place candles of varying heights in the firebox. It'll look great!

Your heat and your money will go straight up the chimney without fireplace doors.

Our fireplace has a damper you can close so there would be no heat loss. I would think this one would too.

I only replied as I did because my fireplace is in the LR and the thermostat is about 6' away on the DR wall where the two rooms meet. When we moved in the house we found that we lost an enormous amt. of heat even with the damper closed. I have given up fires and placed an electric log set in the firebox. I think a fireplace is lovely, but I would never have one in a LR again because they cause a lot of dirt and debris.

It was not attached securely (from previous owners). How is yours attached?
