I live in a log cabin. My foundation in concrete and my flooring is hardwood. I need a floor outlet in the floor away from the wall. How can I do that without going into the foundation and without ruining the hardwoods?

I'm thinking conduit to a wall to an already installed outlet. It would all be above floor , no cutting holes in floor . It could work well if a desk or sofa sat over the top of it. Otherwise contact a pro , they know exactly all your options.

You can't. Unless you don't care if it is on top of your wood flooring.

  • Couple questions - why does the outlet need to be in the floor, and how will power be supplied to the outlet?

I have an electric recliner and it doesn't sit near a wall. It is a big room and no wall to put it up against.

Its against code to have an outlet in the floor. Also your homeowners insurance would not cover for any mishaps.

Yeah, let's think of an alternative for the outlet! What are your other options?

It may be against code in IL but, not KY. My LR, bedroom and kitchen have them.If it has to be where you want it, may I suggest a heavy duty extension cord with a cord cover over it. The cover is stuck to the floor, the cord installed and the cover snapped onto the bottom. Different colors. No tripping.

well, I tried that and when I removed the adhesive I ruined the stain and my husband.......was LESS than thrilled. I now have it going across the room, under an area rug and in a tubing of fabric. I just really want it in the floor. There will never be a situation where it would show if it were an outlet. It will be under the recliner, or couch, or end table. And it is ok to have a floor outlet where I live. Many homes in my neighborhood have them. I just didn't plan on needing one when we built the home. :(
