How does one attract hummingbirds?

Plants such as Cuphera,salvia,cone flowers,blackened susans ,are hummingbird attractors

I have a large area that I planted with Monarda or bee balm . I have the scarlet which is beautiful. Comes back every year sometimes in other places. Easy to up root if you want to keep it confined to one area. Full sun or partial. Makes a nice tea if you have allergies. Attracts several different kind of hummingbirds. We love watching them.

there are a number of plants that you can put into your garden that specifically attract hummingbirds...butterfly flower, butterfly bush, liatris, coneflower to name a few. You could also install a hummingbird feeder, but need to make the commitment to keep it filled. Additionally, having a birdbath or low flowing water source nearby is also helpful. Good luck!

My hummers love lemon balm, bee balm and their favorite is pineapple sage once you let it bloom, which I do, just for them. Plus I have 5 hummer feeders away from the seed feeders and I have been making my own nectar since the beginning of time. Once they find it, they will return. Due to my climate, I have hummers year round and now, in Summer, they drain all 5 feeders every day. Just place the feeder where they can easily spot it and be patient. They are the first ones up every morning and the last to go to bed at night. It will also attract orioles, so if that happens, get them a feeder too.

if you put up feeders, they will come. I make my mixture with about 1/3 to 1/2 sugar. I try to tempt my neighbors hummingbirds over to my feeders.

The recommended mix for hummers is 1:4 (1 part sugar, 4 parts water). Try not to use much more sugar in the mixture for health reasons. I use boiling water and dissolve the sugar in it. Let it cool and keep it in the refrigerator. Be sure to put it in clean feeders. If you have nectar left in the feeder after 3 days during hot weather, replace it. Be sure to keep the holes of the feeder clean. Believe it or not, hummingbird beaks have become stuck together from sugar water, plant material, etc. Hummingbirds will drink at bird baths, damp leaves, etc. They love misters (Hometalk has had some directions for same). I use salt to scrub my feeders, Q-tips to clean the holes and dried rice to clean the bottles. I use apple cider vinegar and boiling water as my cleaning medium. My favorite feeders are the flat feeders because the birds seen to stay an extra long time. One last bit of advice...hummer scouts arrive about May first and leave around the second week of September. For the little guys traveling to and from distances further from me, I put out feeders in mid February, and keep them out until the end of October. Good luck. I put my feeders out in March every year so the "scouts" find it. Normally have a few show up in April and by May they have let all their friends know.
