  • What are you trying to cover? Standard plastic or woodgrain banquet style tables?

What about placemats? Table runners? And Google for tablescape ideas to match your theme?

Or go with plain white coton tablecloths for every event and let the decor / theme determine color?

I have used everything from sheer lace, beach towels, old quilts, aztec blankets, kitchen towels and sheets to cover tables.

If you want something more permanent, you could mod podge then seal the table tops.

You could use a table runner going long ways on the table or use several shorter table runners going along the length of the table. You could just use placemats. If you want an alternative to a table cloth you can use a shower curtain too. You could make small arrangements to put along the center of the table.

You can use a table runner. Or, sometimes I take 2 colorful, ironed cloth napkins and set them at an angle, point to point, In the center of the table. Then I'll put an arrangement on top Of the napkins. Looks really nice.

for an outdoor baby shower I purchased oblong white tablecloths from tablecloths.com and clear glass plates from the dollar store. I made a runner out of 6 inch burlap ribbon and placed a lengths of grosgrain ribbon down the center of with a few small ferns in metal buckets - also from the dollar store. I bought 2 coordinating patterns of wrapping paper and some patterned scrapbook paper and cut them into square placemats to fit under the plates. Got many compliments

Newspaper companies sometimes let you have the ends/leftover paper rolls because it's too short for them to use. You can roll out that paper and tape it to the table(s). If there's any mess at the end, just roll it up and dispose of it. If there are children, you could let them color on it, which could keep them busy .

A friend sent me a video of someone using a fitted sheet on an outside table instead of a table cloth. It seems to stay put and is an easy cleanup
