Hi I would like to know how to kill grass in flower beds without harming the plants. The plants are perennial and the grass is pasture.
apply food grade diatomaceous earth, egg shells, copper banding, dish of beer, snail and slug bait
Agree with Janet's comment...
Place eggshells all around the edge of the garden . Supposedly , the sharp edges of the shells deter them. I've also read that if place shallow dishes of beer around , they climb in and drown but I haven't tried that one .
wear garden gloves and hand eliminate them (yes squash them between your fingers). Hunt in the early morning. They like moisture so clean up piles of leaves or grass to limit places they can live. research egg shells because that may keep them away (shells cut the bodies of snails?(
The beer works. My mother-in-law used to go out at 4 in the morning and step on them. She was a very soft spoken gentile person and I couldn't believe that's what she did. Ewwww...but she said it's the only way.
You can also collect them in a bucket then sprinkle with salt. Gross too but is a 100% effective method.
Also, inspect any new plants you bring home. Make sure you aren't adding any travelers to your garden.
try peppermints in the garden...think that will work
Have you tried beer in a sunken tuna can? Bury it level with the ground, they love the stuff, climb in and drown! I now have predatory snails that eat the regular garden snails. Thought I had another type moving in and started stepping on them! Finally had time to research, no more smashing!!
