'It's 5'oclock Somewhere!' (table Makeover)

My best friend recently moved to Maryland...again. Boo hiss. But I am extremely thankful for cell phones and Facebook! I won't miss her nearly as bad with a constant form of keeping in touch 
Moving to a new home has started her 'decorating' all over again as this house needs a few updates and has more room than her old house. Her new bedroom is huge (jealous) and needed more than just a bed and armoire! She sent me pictures of the two new, gorgeous chairs she purchased to go in there. That's where the fun started.
When I was much younger (weren't we all) I was given an antique replica table. I had very little furniture at the time and used it as a side table. Then as an entry table, then, well you get the drift. The table never did quite fit in with my style but has followed along with me for ages. For the last 15 yrs or so it has been sitting, lonely and neglected in my basement (as have a lot of things). After having the table for so long it was looking a little tired and beat up, and my last attempt at sprucing it up a bit was a big fat fail. I just was not happy with it and since I didn't need it, well there it sat.
When my friend showed me her chairs, I again thought of that table, and how good it could be between those chairs. I sent her a picture and asked how she would like this table redone to go with her new chairs- it was a resounding yes! Yay, she would get a new table, I would get a fun project, and the table would get a new purpose! Win, win, win! Yeee haw
I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it too. My friend has a high-stress job, 3 teenagers ,4 dogs, 2 cats and 4 horses and now a new home (frankly I don't know how she does it) and in the evenings, at the end of her day, she likes to sit and relax with a glass of wine or two (she has teenagers remember?). Here's how it all went down...

And, here is the less than stellar table as it was. In this picture I had already begun the stripping process for the top. I just used some stripper I had laying around (he was really cute too...kidding! lol)
After I stripped the top, I sanded with 100 grit, then 320 fine grit , and applied Minwax prestain water based wood conditioner. This is great stuff. Just follow the instructions on the can. It helps the stain to go on and absorb more evenly. Once that was dry, I taped off the top and went to work on the rest of the table.
I already knew that I wanted the top to look like a clock.. so on the sides for interest I added raised clock hands.
I wanted an undertone of the teal that is on the chair , so mixed up a color combo to use. (don't ask proportions because I don't know, I'm like a mad scientist over here when I'm mixing colors and pay no attention to how much or what I put in it as long as it's the color I want!).
Back in High School I took Art every year (go figure) and every year we had to do a color wheel. I always aced that sucker and threw in a few extra colors just for good measure! LOL sorry good old memory lane...back to the regularly scheduled program...
Here you can see the taped off top (I'm a painting slob and always manage to get paint where it does not belong...usually on myself!) Then I began putting the teal color where I wanted it to peek through the creamy color I was using next. After the teal color dried, I applied a crackle medium on the teal parts and let that dry. The one I have is by Plaid, but I think there are better ones around now. This is just what I had on hand so I used it.
Now comes the creamy color, for this I used Country Chic's Vanilla Frosting.. sounds yummy right?
And the crackling begins. Ooh aah!
The cream coat completed, dried , slightly distressed and Annie Sloan's black wax applied.
Unfortunately, I lost the pictures of me stenciling the top clock. I purchased a stencil for the clock numbers and hands on amazon: numeral clock stencil 22 inch and fancy hand stencil, both from Designer stencils. In all honesty, I'm not thrilled with them. These are very big stencils, but are made out of a flimsier material than I'm used to, but hey, they did the job. The numbers were first done with the teal and then overlaid with the cream color. The hands are cream and shadowed by black (in person the hands stand out more than in these pics)
Finished the drawer in the same fashion, painted the inside of the drawer with the teal color and a cute stencil :) I also painted the handle and claw feet with the same cream color.
Here he is! Always 5 oclock! I am hopeful that every time she sees this table, she is reminded that it's always '5 oclock somewhere' and finds the time in her day to just sit and relax 
And yes I know that is bourbon on the table and not wine... but around here my husband likes bourbon and this is my favorite bottle (it's empty, I put colored water in the bottle just for the pics hehehe).

Hi Pamela! Thanks for stopping by! This table needed to 'move out of it's parents basement and get a life! lol The paint allowed it to do just that. It is now a very loved piece hanging out at someone else's house : )
