This is a fun, colorful Christmas ornament that you can make with acrylic paint and some easy steps. It will bring color, and a playful look to your Christmas Tree!
A colorful, whimsical Christmas ornament to decorate your Christmas tree! I love whimsy and color!
I purchased this plain white ceramic ornament at Michaels craft store. There is a little hole at the top where I will tie a ribbon when I'm done to hang them.
I put a layer of white gesso down on the ornament so the first paint layer would adhere to the ceramic. I used yellow, pink, red, blue and purple acrylic paint as my first color layer.
I outlined the edges with black acrylic paint using a small brush.
I added this black pattern by taking wax paper and putting a sheer layer of black paint onto it. Then I scrape into it with my fingernails to make patterns and then turn it over and press it on the colored ornament. I let it dry. Then I put a sheer layer of color on top so the pattern barely show through. I use this technique in my paintings. You can see me demo this on my youtube channel.
I added a white swirl with the white acrylic paint.
I added a black swirl on top. Again using acrylic paint.
I added various colors on top of the black swirl. I don't worry about covering up some of the black swirl as I will go back in and add the black line again.
I go back over the black line with the acrylic paint.
I take a piece of string (I use embroidery thread) and cover it in paint and then dab it on the ornament to create little squiggle lines over the ornament. If you get too many squiggly lines, you can rinse them off lightly with water.
Next I use a small paint brush tip to create little white dots with acrylic paint. Once it is completely dry, I spray it with a sheer coat of clear acrylic to seal it and that will bring out the color!
Once dry, I tied a bit of gold or silver ribbon to them so they can hang freely on the branch.
Bright and festive ornaments will light up your Christmas tree!
